    What Went Down in Portland

For the past few weeks, homework has had me swamped! I haven’t had time to finish up a few business projects or even post on my blog! (inhale, exhale) 🙂 So last weekend, Andrew and I took a trip to Portland to surprise my sister as she competed to win the title of Miss Washington. Neither of us had ever been to Portland, so we were thrilled to embark on this trip! After 11+ hours of driving from the Bay Area to Portland, we finally arrived at the lush city! Our puppy, Ranger, did SO good considering this was his longest car ride ever. We stayed at the Hilton downtown, and boy let me…

Outfit of the Day: I’m Thinkin’ Blazers

Ahh, my FIRST style post! Not nerve-racking at all right? 🙂 If you know my personality well, this is definitely out of my comfort zone as I’m usually the one behind the camera! But that’s the self-challenge that I took on this year, plus getting better organized but I’ll talk about that in a different post. Okay, moving on to the  REAL reason you’re here! My style is pretty minimalistic. I don’t own a purse and I love the idea of simple jewelry. I’ll choose comfort over compromise any day! However, I do enjoy getting dressed up every once in a while, plus I like a cute outfit that’s topped with a blazer.…

    Welcome to kkjacobson.com!

Hello and welcome! I started this blog last summer with the intention of making it a vegan food blog. However, things took a turn when I was diagnosed last fall with ovarian cancer. This little corner of the web became an outlet during my moments of trials as I underwent surgeries to remove the cancer. As of this January, I’m cancer-free! (Hallelujah!) But that certainly doesn’t mean that my blog will stop! Please expect to see posts on Christian living, vegan recipes, beauty, fashion, and lifestyle updates along the way. I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for this new endeavor! *Update: I’ve recently decided to focus this blog on…

    Top 5 Books I Read in 2017

Prior to last year, my reading list consisted of self-help, non-fiction, and Christian living books in addition to what I read for school (hello Organizational Leadership major!). Talk about staying in the books! Now, don’t get me wrong I believe those books are great but I was growing bored of the style and in need of change. I wanted something fresh and a creative new story to finish my evenings with. That frustration led me to fiction books, and the rest is history! *Peep, I’m sort of a Francine Rivers fan! Here is my top reading list of 2017: Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst The Atonement Child by Francine Rivers The…

New Year, New Hair-Do: Box Braids

Confession: I haven’t had braids in TEN years! Yes, let’s repeat that ten! I’m sure some of you are wondering why. I guess a few bad experiences left me feeling a little burnt regarding my salon experiences. In addition to this, I wasn’t a personal fan of hair extensions either. (Disclaimer: I’m not against those that love something a little extra!) However, for the past few months, I’ve had a little spark inside me that has desired to revisit braids. Mostly because I’m SO over my hair. I’m thankful for the hair that I have but your girl needs a break! I absolutely love my new hair-do and can’t…

    I Was Diagnosed: Part Four, I’m Cancer-Free!

Hi reader, Happy New Year! Thank you for stopping by to read the final chapter of my cancer story. I encourage you to read my other posts to follow along! Late December of 2017, I had surgery to remove my right ovary and fallopian tube. Weeks leading up to this day, I felt confident and relaxed that everything would be okay. However, as the surgery date approached, I was struck with anxiety and restlessness. I suddenly wasn’t my typical positive self anymore. I prayed and asked the Lord “What’s happening to me?!” I soon realized that I was saddened at that fact that I would be losing a part of…

    I Was Diagnosed: Part Three

Hello reader! Thank you for keeping up with me in this chapter of my life! Please read Part Two to stay up to date on this story. After a long-awaited call from the oncology department, we finally scheduled my appointment. My husband and I arrived the following morning at the hospital looking forward to learning more about my condition. As he parked the car he reached over and held my hand and then whispered, “Don’t worry honey, everything is going to be okay. We’ll get this all figured out.” On a typical day, his gentle words would ease my weary heart, but today was different. Very different.   Somehow, I gathered the…

    I Was Diagnosed: Part Two

Congratulations, you’ve made it to part two of my story! I encourage you to read I Was Diagnosed: Part One to ensure that everything makes sense along the way. Okay, let’s dive in! As you may know now, I’m pretty sensitive to anesthesia. Due to my post-op discussion with my husband about accidentally stepping on a snail. I mean, a serious mini meltdown and my poor guy went along with it too!  I was completely out of it for a few days as the anesthesia hadn’t officially worn off. Somehow, I gathered the strength to go for a stroll in our neighborhood the next day which I slightly regretted later on. I…

    Mahalo Maui

Hawaii holds a special place in my heart. Sure, I might be biased considering it’s where my husband and I spent our honeymoon while on Kauai back in 2015. However, this time, we traveled to Maui with certainty that it would not disappoint just as the last island did not. Andrew and I spent our days in the rainforests of Hana and the east side beaches. Our nights were usually up north in the hustle and bustle of Kahului –a populated, vibrant city. Among all the locations that we visited, we were eternally grateful for the historic beauty of the island. We wasted no time our first day on Maui,…

    I Was Diagnosed: Part One

I waited for this procedure for months prior. Something we thought was a right ovarian cyst that is actually quite common for women. My physician and I have monitored this mass with ultrasounds every three months for over a year. Because the mass continued to grow, she was concerned and suggested I get it removed. I knew in my heart it was the right thing to do, considering now at this point we’re unsure of what it is but not once thinking of the worst. Five o’clock in the morning on October 30th, 2017, my husband, Andrew, and I gathered ourselves to prepare for a long road ahead. It…
